Richard Collier
Director, VAT
Richard has been advising on complex VAT matters for over 30 years having started his career at Arthur Andersen. He was worked across a multitude of industry sectors in both Big Four and top 100 firms. He has advised on £ multi-billion VAT issues faced by multinationals trading cross-border and across the EU, through to smaller but no less impactful VAT matters faced by SMEs entrepreneurs and high net worth individuals in the UK market.
He advises across the full corporate lifecycle from start-ups and inward investment, growth and acquisitions, due diligence and strategy, adapting to new markets and opportunities, raising finance and ultimately corporate disposals and business closures. Richard is a keen advocate of pre-emptive structuring to better manage VAT in advance. He is equally at home managing the relationship with HMRC, agreeing complex and potentially contentious VAT treatments, defending clients from HMRC assessments and inspections and where necessary, legal challenges to HMRC working closely with legal counsel. Key sectors Richard has advised on include the private and public medical sectors, property and construction, technology start-ups in the Silicon Roundabout hub in London, cross-border trade and customs issues and finance and education but his range of experience covers most areas including energy trading and insurance to horse racing and fine art.
