‘I applied to AMS because they offer accounting positions to people who don’t have a background in finance, and their apprenticeship scheme is a great way to improve your skills and knowledge by learning in class and building on that through working in the office. Some of the work can be a bit challenging but the more you start to understand it, the more enjoyable it becomes! I look forward to completing my AAT and moving onto the ACCA qualification in the future.’ – Benni

‘I was drawn to AMS because of its reputation as a Top 100 Accountancy firm in the centre of Manchester and the clear career pathway offered on the apprenticeship scheme. The Academy interested me because I wanted to apply the skills I developed in university to a role that allows me to learn about a new field. I enjoy being part of the Academy because I get a rewarding hands-on experience that enhances my learning, and my mentor is patient and informative which really helps; I feel like I’m part of the team already and I’m constantly learning more about the accounting industry.’ – Daniel

AMS stood out to me as it is a rapidly growing company, which provides opportunities to learn and progress quickly if you work hard. My favourite thing about the Academy is that there’s other apprentices going through the same as you, so you can work together and help each other. Working with my mentor has been helpful too, as she understands what it’s like to start out in accountancy and I feel like I can ask her questions when I’m unsure. Learning in the office has been really effective as I am able to pick up new information and apply it on a day-to-day basis, meaning my knowledge is constantly reinforced/supported and added to. The weekly classes help us understand the theory behind what we’re doing during work too. I’m surprised at how much I’ve learned in such a short amount of time. – Charlie

I enjoy working at AMS because of the mentality all the workers have here, they are always striving to be better at what they do and always want to do what is best for their clients. I feel very lucky to have my mentor as she has lots of knowledge about accounting and she is always there to help on anything I’m confused about. At first, I thought I would just be doing something like filing and admin, but we have actually learnt about accounting and have been given real responsibilities. I love learning in the office as it is always beneficial, and everyone wants us to do well and learn as much as we possibly can. The team goes out of their way to help us and to explain things to us that we don’t understand. – Jasmin

I was interested in Accountancy as it helps you acquire knowledge which is useful in all areas of finance and in life generally. AMS stands out from other firms because the company and management are as ambitious as I am and are willing to give me a diverse range of jobs that challenge and push me rather than have me keep doing basic jobs like so many other firms do. Working in the office alongside studying is great, as I am constantly learning new things in a style that I feel suits me very well. I have already learnt so much in a short space of time, in a large number of areas within accounts and audit – I feel like the pace I’m learning at is increasing as well. If you’re considering AMS, go with your gut feeling; that’s what I did and I definitely made the right decision! – Jacob
